I would like to apologize. I have been slacking on my mocks this season. So there is no better time than the future.
1. Jacksonville Jaguars- Aidan Hutchinson EDGE Michigan
If you have the first pick in the draft you strategy is one of two things. It is either draft a QB or draft the best overall player. They took Trevor Lawrence last season and now they need to take the best player in this draft. Jacksonville bolstered the o-line all off-season, take the best player and call it a night.
2. Detroit Lions- Kayvon Thibodeaux EDGE Oregon
The Lions have a lot of problems, so there really is not a bad pick here. Some say they should go QB here, but with the 32nd pick as well, that pick will be for a QB. Just like Jacksonville, go with the best player available and that is Kayvon.
3. Houston Texans Evan Neal OT Alabama
Houston can not draft a GM or owner sadly. They have so many problems. They are 3 years away from being 3 years away. You need to build from the trenches and that will be accomplished by drafting Neal.
4. New York Jets Kyle Hamilton S Notre Dame
The Jets have bigger needs than safety, but having a 2nd first round pick lets them get a guy like Hamilton. You can make the argument that Hamilton is the most valuable player in this draft class because of his versatility. Having him available for the Jets is too good of an opportunity to pass up.
5. New York Giants Ikem Ekwonu OT NC State
The Giants o-line is bad. They can draft a QB here, but a piece of paper can not be the line that protects the QB.
6. Carolina Panthers Charles Cross OT Mississippi State
It is still comedy that people think that Sam Darnold is the franchise QB in Carolina. I am not convinced that any prospect this year would be an upgrade to Darnold. Because of that we will play it safe with the o-line.
7. New York Giants Travon Walker EDGE Georgia
The Giants o-line is bad and so is a majority of the NFC East. The Giants can take a chance with Walker and rip apart the NFC East's offensive lines as well.
8. Atlanta Falcons Jameson Williams WR Alabama
Well Calvin Ridley is out for the entire year. I love Kyle Pitts but he can not do it all. The Falcons need to get some offensive weapons to pair with Pitts.
9. Seattle Seahawks Jermaine Johnson II EDGE Florida State
Many people expect Seattle to take a QB after the Russell Wilson trade. However, they do have Drew Locke and I expect them to ride him with him for at least one season. Seattle is known for their defense and they will continue to build on that. I expect them to get a top end EDGE in the first.
10. New York Jets Garrett Wilson WR Ohio State
The Jets have a franchise QB? Well they have a QB for now. They have been tied to trade rumors involving many top tier WR's but failed to get any. If they actually want to help their "franchise" QB they will draft a WR here.
11. Washington Commanders Devin Lloyd LB Utah
Last season they saw division rival Dallas take a LB in the first and it turned out to be the best player in the draft. Washington loves to copy their rivals with hopes of them copying their success. Washington is going to take LB1 in this draft so they can compete with Micah Parsons (spoiler they won't succeed).
12. Minnesota Vikings Andrew Booth CB Clemson
My friend Christian said Andrew Booth is CB1. That was enough for me to have him be the first CB off the board. Minnesota's defense has been crazy inconsistent the past couple of years. They have a chance to get CB1 at 12? They have to take advantage of it.
13. Houston Texans Kenny Pickett QB Pitt
We have a QB?!!?!? I have loved Pickett since the start. I love his arm and decision making and that is why he is QB1 for me in this draft. I feel bad he is going to Houston, but someone had to. Deshaun Watson is out, Davis Mills is not the long term plan, and Kenny P is in.
14. Baltimore Ravens Jordan Davis DL Georgia
The AFC North is really good. The Browns got better on paper, the Bengals went to the Super Bowl, and the Steelers are always tough. The Ravens need depth at the defensive line badly. Good opportunity to get a day 1 starter with hopes of being competitive in the best division in football.
15. Philadelphia Eagles Tyler Linderbaum C Iowa
This is Jason Kelce's last dance. Howie has made it clear he builds from the trenches. Linderbaum can sit behind Kelce year 1 and learn the NFL under the future hall of famer. I know the Eagles have other needs but players like Linderbaum do not come around very ofton.
16. New Orleans Saints Malik Willis QB Liberty
Another QB?!?! Many expect Willis to be the first QB off the board and maybe a top 10 pick. I am a proud member of the Malik Willis will not pan out in the NFL club. I hate his mechanics and I feel that will be his downfall in the NFL.
17. Los Angelas Chargers Drake London WR USC The AFC West was so entertaining to watch this off-season. It was an arms race to get offensive talent. LA needs to catch up in the arms race if they want to compete in this division.
18. Philadelphia Eagles Sauce Gardner CB Cincy
I am a huge fan of Sauce. He never gave up a TD in college and in the semi-finals he held Jameson Williams to 2 receptions for negative yards. He plays like an NFL vet and if he can continue that in the NFL I will be so happy. But Howie Roseman is still the GM so I expect this to be a guy we could get in the 4th round.
19. New Orleans Saints Chris Olave WR Ohio State
Well the Saints got their new guy in Malik Willis. Now they get him a new WR to throw to.
20. Pittsburgh Steelers Bernhard Raiman OT Central Michigan
At some point Pitt needs to acknowledge of the offensive line. Their QB room is already very crowded and I do not expect them to add to the mess.
21 New England Patriots Derek Stingley Jr CB LSU
The Pats got Mac Jones some much needed help this off-season. The division is loaded with WR talent and they will need a solid CB room if they want to compete in this division. Knowing Bill he will draft some no name and they will turn out to be a star.
22. Green Bay Packers Geoge Karlaftis EDGE Purdue
We all know Green Bay will not draft Rodgers any help. We all know they will draft some defensive player again.
23. Arizona Cardinals Devonte Wyatt DL Georgia
Kyler Murray has a lot of question marks. However they have surrounded him with crazy amounts of weapons. The next best thing is give him a really good defense.
24. Dallas Cowboys Treylon Burks WR Arkansas
Dallas was rumored to be taking a WR when Amari Cooper was on the team. Now that he is off to Cleveland, Dallas should be in the market for another WR. Ceedee Lamb is going to be a star, but top NFL teams run with multiple star WR's and that is their attempt here.
25. Buffalo Bills Jahan Dotson WR Penn State
Cole Beasley is out and Josh Allen needs someone else other than Stefon Diggs to throw to. I like them taking offensive line here to, but the board did not fall in their favor.
26. Tennessee Titans David Ojabo EDGE Michigan
This pick is based solely off how the board fell. They failed to land Kwity Paye last season so here is their chance at redemption.
27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Zion Johnson G Boston College
I really really wanted to have them take a QB, but I refrained. The Bucs o-line was solid when healthy last season. However, they were not healthy at all. They can not afford to let Brady get hit all game, so depth at the o-line needs to be priority #1.
28. Green Bay Packers Trevor Penning OT Northern Iowa
The Packers will take a QB here...admit it you won't be surprised. The Packers got Rodgers a new WR1 now they can make sure Rodgers does not get hit 100x a game.
29. Kansas City Chiefs Kaiir Elam CB Florida
Have you seen what the AFC West has done with offensive talent? Chiefs lost Tyreek Hill but they still have a fair share of offensive weapons. They need to lock down their defense to continue the dynasty.
30. Kansas City Chiefs Nakobe Dean LB Georiga
Same thing as pick 29. The board did not fall in their favor for another WR sadly.
31 Cincinnati Bengals Kenyon Green G Texas A&M
This is easy. They lost the Super Bowl because of their offensive line.
32. Detroit Lions Sam Howell QB North Carolina
How did Jared Goff almost win a Super Bowl? I was trying to figure out which QB the Lions will pick here. Then UNC beat Duke and ended Coach K's season, so it must be a sign?
Well there you have it, my first mock of the season. If you know me I like to think outside the box and just go with it. I hope it sparks some fun debate and conversation.
PSA: I know very well Howie Roseman will do something dumb with 3 first round picks. I am curious how he will mess this up but will not be surprised when he does that!
