Week 13: Turkey Day Picks with Sweet
Updated: Aug 24, 2020
Bears (-2.5) @ Lions – Thursday, 12:30 PM
Week 13 is upon us. It’s time for a tradition as old as time; eating turkey and watching the Lions lose at home on Thanksgiving. The Lions have a career record of 37-40-2 on Thanksgiving. After winning 4 straight Thanksgiving games, they have lost the last two (Vikings & Bears). The 2019 version of this Thanksgiving Day Game is a throwback to the very first game the Lions played in 1934 against the Bears on Turkey Day. Chicago comes in at 5-6 after picking up a home win against the Giants. The Lions have lost four straight games and will be without quarterback Matthew Stafford once again and might have to turn to third stringer David Blough. I have no reason to believe in either team, but with the Bears being -2.5 point favorites, you have to take the points here and hope that the offense comes alive.
Pick: Bears 19-13
Start Em: Bears D/ST
Sit Em: WR, Marvin Jones (DET)
Best Fantasy Performance: Tarik Cohen (CHI)
Bills @ Cowboys (-6.5) – Thursday, 4:30 PM
Something has got to give in this game. In the Bills and Cowboys wins on the season, the teams have a combined record of 37-116-1. Buffalo has the only win over a team currently above .500 right now (Titans). Somebody has to win this game right? Dallas is a -6.5 favorite at home, but I look for this game to be extremely close. I would take Buffalo +6.5 on the road simply because of their defense. Ultimately though, I like the Cowboys to pull this one out with Dak and Zeke mustering up enough offense to get the win. The game is going to come down to a kicker and we all know the history of a Bills Kicker against the Cowboys.
Pick: Cowboys 26-23
Start Em: QB, Dak Prescott (DAL)
Sit Em: WR, John Brown (BUF)
Best Fantasy Performance: Ezekiel Elliot (DAL)
Saints (-6.5) @ Falcons – Thursday, 8:20 PM
Another team I have absolutely no read on is the Atlanta Falcons. After losing 6 games in a row, they go on the road and beat the Saints and Panthers handily after a bye week. Atlanta followed that up by losing to Tampa Bay at home last week. New Orleans has looked like the best team in football, minus two dud games against the Falcons and Rams this season. I would assume that the Saints come into Atlanta with revenge on their minds. The Falcons secondary ranks 29th overall against opposing Wide Receivers this season, so look for Michael Thomas and company to feast. I like the Saints to cover and win big.
Pick: Saints 38-23
Start Em: TE, Jared Cook (NO)
Sit Em: RB, Brian Hill (ATL)
Best Fantasy Performance: Michael Thomas (NO)
